Kossuth Prize-winner János Balázs is one of the most successful and sought-after pianists active today and a regular presence in major concert halls around the world. He works together with such noted artists and conductors as Mischa Maisky,... Tamás Vásáry, José Cura, Vadim Repin and Pinchas Steinberg. The artist was dedicating this concert to the memory of György Cziffra, on 5 November 2020, which was the 99th anniversary of his birth in Budapest.
The program for the memorial concert focuses on two composers known just as much for the hallmarks of their emotionally rich, passionate and character-filled styles as the performer himself is. In recent years, Balázs has taken the stage at such venues as Moscow's Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Bozar in Brussels and the Cologne Philharmony, where the critics highlighted the evocative, profound and poignant sensitivity of his performance style and his capacity for creating the pieces he plays anew, thus giving his concerts an atmosphere of being one-of-a-kind events. This recipient of both the Kossuth Prize and the Liszt Award who has also been named a Hungarian Artist of a Merit is engaged with society in a number of roles, including running instrument presentation concerts for children, collaborating with the Snétberger Musical Talent Centre and serving on the jury of the Virtuosos talent search programme. In 2020, in Hamburg, he received the international recognition Young Steinway Artist, and he has been appointed to serve as a lecturer at Budapest's Liszt Academy from September of the same year.
This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 5 November 2020.
