Müpa 20 – A Celebration of the Generations
Birthday Weekend at Müpa Budapest
15-16 March 2025
It was 20 years ago, on 14 March 2005, that Müpa Budapest first opened its doors. Commencing on that day was our shared story, one belonging to all the visitors, artists and staff who have since evolved into a cohesive community through thousands of unforgettable experiences. During this time, generations of performers have developed into experienced and globally recognised figures before our eyes, with countless viewers joining in with us on this lifelong adventure from the beginning.
On 15 and 16 March, we will celebrate these memorable 20 years with a marathon weekend featuring a host of artists, many of whose careers have been closely intertwined with the Müpa Budapest story since those very first days. Taking the stage one after another will be families of artists, some of them spanning several generations, with parents, children and sometimes even grandchildren bearing esteemed surnames like Berecz, Kelemen, Ránki, Balázs, Lakatos, Bogányi and Oláh, as they joyfully play music, sing and even dance together.
The generations of cellists and organists, and trumpet and cimbalom players, are all among the top instrumentalists in their categories. And there will be no lack of singing and dancing either: those who join us will also be able to experience a special evening of folk songs, jazz, contemporary circus and dance both contemporary and traditional.
Come and celebrate with us!
