The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD 2025/26

The Metropolitan Opera in New York once again promises its global audience a winning formula of familiar hits, operatic rarities and contemporary delights. The season comprising eight performances offers a veritable parade of divas to admire as Lise Davidsen makes her debut as Isolde, Asmik Grigorian returns to the Met as Onegin’s Tatyana, Sonya Yoncheva prepares to portray Maddalena in Andrea Chénier, and the two Bellini operas of the season see the bel canto specialist Nadine Sierra and Lisette Oropesa in the principle roles. The list of tenors is equally impressive and features Freddie De Tommaso as Rodolfo, the dizzyingly versatile Michael Spyres as Tristan, Lawrence Brownlee reaching for the high F of Arturo’s solo, and the evergreen favourite of the Met, Piotr Beczała, as Andrea Chénier.

We will also see several productions with proud histories and no shortage of lasting appeal, among them Franco Zeffirelli’s unforgettable La Bohème and Otto Schenk’s quintessentially Viennese Arabella. The Met will also present a new production of I puritani, Rolando Villazón’s directorial debut with La sonnambula, and, as the highlight of the season, Yuval Sharon’s visionary Tristan and Isolde. The latter will be conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and the chief music director known for his commitment to contemporary opera will also put the orchestra through its paces in Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, which brings art history’s most famous married painters to the opera stage.
