MOZART EXPEDITION – THE DON GIOVANNI EFFECT

Panelists:

Márton Karczag
Gergely Horváth
Anna Juhász
Annamária Tari

Born through word of mouth, his character was first committed to parchment by a Catholic priest but was never set in stone, and so he became the archetype of the seducer that conquered western culture. This eternally youthful figure is a quintessential feature of Spanish Baroque, French Classicism, German Romanticism, English irony and the dramatic landscape of the 20th century. He was born Don Juan, but achieved true immortality as Don Giovanni. What gives him the allure that has lasted through the centuries, and why does he appear in the works of Moliére, Mozart, Byron, Kierkegaard, and even Camus? And how does the fictional Don Juan encounter the very real figure of Casanova in Don Giovanni?
