Mozart expedition – The Don Giovanni effect

9-13 September 2025

Why has the figure of Don Juan captured the imaginations of artists, thinkers and audiences for centuries?

Our joint mini-festival with the Budapest Festival Orchestra is set to help solve this mystery through opera and dance performances, a literary evening, a panel discussion, and film screenings.

The first theme of the Mozart Expedition, which is set to return annually, is the legendary womaniser, so we could not do without the genius composer’s Don Giovanni, which will be conducted and directed by Iván Fischer over three nights and with global stars in the leading roles.

The Szeged Contemporary Dance Company will present the eternal tension between societal constraints and passion through the choreography of Tamás Juronics and Enrico Morelli, the discussion entitled What makes the seducer so irresistible? will see respected experts dissecting the psychological and literary significance of the Don Juan phenomenon, while the literary evening entitled The Eternal Don Juan, and several cult films, will shed new light on this complex character – and of course on Mozart.

Let yourself be seduced by us!
