Covering the songs of Weather Report, one of the most influential bands in jazz history, is a pleasure for any musician, but when Kurt Elling, one of the leading baritones of our time, takes on this task, and joins creative forces with Yellowjackets, the flagship of fusion jazz still going strong with unflagging energy after nearly five decades, the event becomes a veritable celebration of the genre. Elling’s skills as a transformative lyricist and improvisationalist are known far and wide, as is the musical world of this quartet boasting an unmistakable sound that transcends their eternal capacity for self-renewal. Thanks to them, WR’s classics have gained a new lease of life, reaching realms where only these five master musicians can take them. Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter would love it.

Jegyzet
