Early Music Festival

The Müpa Budapest audience returns year after year to experience the Early Music Festival’s representative cross-section of the world of historically informed performance – whether in the composers’ oeuvres it calls upon or in the performers it selects. Things will be no different in 2027, when William Christie and his wonderful ensemble, Les Arts Florissants, the Basel-based La Cetra Barockorchester & Vokalensemble, making its Müpa debut under Andrea Marcon, and, as indispensable as ever, György Vashegyi with the Orfeo Orchestra and Purcell Choir all take the stage of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall.
As for the composers, Christie and his orchestra has Händel at the centre of their programme, while the concert conducted by György Vashegyi celebrates Rameau as its main protagonist: hot on the heels of the opera-ballet Pygmalion comes the Hungarian premiere of a pastoral, La Guirlande. Finally, Marcon and his Swiss ensemble promise a veritable journey into 17th-century Venice – and, at the same time, into the Easter season – as they arrange the liturgical works of Monteverdi and his contemporaries side by side as part of an exciting concept.
