Masterpieces never grow old; in fact, it is our duty to revisit them from time to time, no matter the art form. Conceived in the spirit of what Richard Wagner referred to as the Gesamtkunstwerk (a total work of art), The Ring of the Nibelung is a cohesive blend of music, visuals, meaning and expression, and the Budapest Wagner Days production has strived to faithfully honour the composer’s vision for nearly two decades now. Siegfried is set apart from the rest of the tetralogy on account of its magical fairy tale world, and it is an adventure we will be accompanied on by Jürgen Sacher as Mime and Jochen Schmeckenbecher as Alberich. Magdalena Anna Hofmann, whom we encountered in 2023, returns as Brünnhilde, while the Australian Derek Welton makes his Müpa debut as the Wanderer (Wotan).
