It was in 2018 that the Müpa Budapest audience was first exposed to Italian director Cesare Lievi’s vision for the story of Tristan und Isolde, and now it is returning in 2027. Taking up the baton to helm the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Hungarian National Choir will be Budapest Wagner Days artistic director Ádám Fischer. The principal roles will be performed by internationally renowned artists like the marvellous American heldentenor Corby Welch as Tristan, the world-famous Swedish dramatic soprano Elisabet Strid singing Isolde, German bass René Pape as the magnanimous – even in the face of betrayal – King Marke, and the likewise German baritone Markus Eiche portraying Tristan’s faithful squire, Kurwenal. Get ready to hear an international cast of world-class soloists take on one of the most poignant masterpieces in opera history!
