Jazz Showcase
22-24 January 2016
The three grand concerts of the next Jazz Showcase will present the three faces of success. László Gárdonyi, leader of the Laszlo Gardony Trio, says first he had to get out of (Hungary) to get on (the stage) in America. He found lots of success there: he won contests, got awards, released albums – he would even get on again, this time a bigger stage – education: he’s been teaching the piano at Boston’s famous Berklee College of music for nearly three decades.
Károly Binder, leader of the quartet to appear on the second evening of Jazz Showcase, is just as noteworthy a teacher: he is the Head of the Jazz Department of the Liszt Academy of Music. His career has recently hit a major turning point: he has re-formed his quartet, which is now a worthy successor to the famous Binder Quartet of the 70’s and 80’s, both in its spirit and energy.
Success is nothing new for the three young jazz pianists who have the stage on the third day, either: Krisztián Oláh, Áron Tálas and Mátyás Gayer were all finalists of this year’s Montreux Jazz Solo Piano contest!
The Jazz Talent Fair gives three jazz formations the chance to set off on the path to success, from 16.00 to 19.00 each day. They are gifted, they are keen, they are original... and highly recommended – even more so if you consider that the afternoon concerts are free to attend.
The afternoon concerts will be broadcast live on Müpa Radio’s Easy Channel.
