The trumpet and flugelhorn player that gives the band its name is not only active here: he's also a frequent guest soloist with the Tamás Balogh Quartet and has even performed with Elsa Valle and Gábor Winand's quartet. Nevertheless, Gergő Bille, whose talent as both a composer and performer merits attention, feels most at home with BG 5. He started working with his band in 2013 at the Music Academy, but has also made frequent appearances since 2014 in Budapest outside of school. Although they favour groove-based music, funk and hip-hop, drum and bass and are drawn toward Afro-Cuban rhythms, they do not turn away from the kind of experimentation that is typical of avant garde jazz either. Their wide repertoire is overwhelmingly made up of their own compositions.
