Jazz talent exchange - Noémi Nagy Quartet
27 January 2023, Friday
3:30 pm - 4:45 pm
Festival Theatre
Produced by Müpa Budapest

Though the Noémi Nagy Quartet is a brand new group, formed in the summer of 2022, its members have plenty of experience. The strongest tie between them is that they have a remarkably similar approach to performing classic songs from the worlds of swing and bebop in the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s. They use their own instrumentation and also play their own compositions.

Noémi Nagy's love of jazz started in the home - her father is the pianist Iván Nagy, who among other things is a member of the Gramophonia Hot Jazz Orchestra and Árpi Show. Noémi studied under Kriszta Pocsai for six years at the Pomáz Music School, before winning first prize at the Aladár Tóth National Jazz Music Competition, and then a special award at the National Scientific Student Circle Conference in the vocals category. She also performs in a trio alongside István Gyárfás on guitar and Balázs Szalóky on the trombone, as well as at the Muzikum venue with Iván Nagy, Balázs Cseh and Márton Soós, as part of the Pepita Swing Dance Club. Her quartet is often invited to play at the If Cafe Jazz club, the venue where they made their debut as a foursome. Balázs Horváth has performed in several groups at the Jazz Showcase, most recently winning the special prize at the talent contest as part of Salamon Tűzkő's quintet, receiving an invite to the Zemplén Festival in the process. He is also the permanent pianist for Nikoletta Szőke's group.
Géza Jónás won the First Aladár Pege Jazz Double Bass Competition. He has been invited to play for a wide array of groups, including with Árpád Oláh Tzumo and as part of a new trio from the multifaceted Róbert Szakcsi Lakatos.
Fülöp Jónás has enjoyed wide acclaim with his band Young Tigers alongside Balázs Horváth, Géza Jónás and the guitarist Balázs Varga, and also contributed to Balázs Varga's winning composition for the Müpa Budapest Music Competiton.
