The Dina Sárközi Quintet was founded at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in May 2022. Each member is a current or former student in the jazz department there. After first finding herself completely captivated by the singer/guitarist/songwriters of the 1960s and 70s while still a teenager, Dina later gradually turned to jazz and improvisation. In the members of her quintet, she found not only colleagues, but also soulmates.
Their meeting could be called a fateful one, since the four lads were attending band practice together, and Dina joined them for the technical exam concert in January 2022. It quickly became clear that the creative energies and mutual respect and admiration that was concentrated between these five people was such that their journey together would not end even after the final exams. After Dina won the professional award at the Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition in 2022, it became a matter of course for her to assemble her own line-up. From the beginning, they have been thinking in terms of performing their own songs in Hungarian, making them a fresh splash of colour on the country's jazz scene. Singer/guitarist/songwriters Dina and Márton come from the indie-folk world. As two founding members of the band Zækar, Botond and András incorporate what they describe as "orgasmically sad melancho-drive jazz-pop” into the band's sound. And Máté, for his part, virtuosically brings along the hottest grooves. Having several outstanding singers in the band allows them to place more emphasis on the vocals, thus adding colour to their sound.
