Müpa Budapest announced in the autumn of 2025 that it would hold the György Solti International Conducting Competition with the aim of giving young conductors from around the world the opportunity to compete in front of prominent representatives of the profession in Hungarian concert halls boasting the finest acoustics in the country, with the involvement of internationally renowned Hungarian orchestras, thereby providing support in launching their careers.
Ten competitors will advance to the semi-finals of the Conducting Competition, with five of the young conductors each taking the podium in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy on 5 and 6 October. Their task will be to conduct the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (and the vocal soloists) in a total of three works or excerpts in the following order: a Mozart aria, a Puccini aria, and a contemporary symphonic piece. The works to be conducted will be decided by a random draw.
The names of the finalists will be announced at around 10:15 pm, after the jury discussion at the end of the competition day on October 6.
