BUDAPEST WAGNER DAYS

Although Wagner’s characters are gods and heroes, the music dramas also hold up a mirror to the people of today. The gods are petty and fallible: it is their objective to maintain and expand their power. The past and fate are both key factors in the character development of the heroes of the legends, who sometimes gain salvation through the heroines. Playing a central role in each of the works is the issue of sin and virtue. But what, actually, is the sin? Are there any innocent figures among Wagner’s characters? Might the composer have written his own self into one of his music dramas? There to answer these and similar questions at his half-hour lecture prior to the Gods and Heroes concert will be conductor Ádám Fischer: anyone with tickets for the concert is welcome to attend.

The lecture is in Hungarian.
