The eight-person Kriszta Koncz Group takes its name from the band leader and singer. The group is built on Koncz’s compositions, with a sound that is rooted in jazz but also blends both pop and American folk styles of the 1960s and 1970s to create a uniquely fused musical tableau. Just like the songs themselves, the singer’s lyrics – written in English – reflect on momentary moods, personal experiences and visions, imbued with the colours of nostalgia and melancholy. The relationship between acoustic and electrical instruments plays a pivotal role in the group’s sound.
The members of the band are truly diverse: while most of them are professional jazz musicians, each is an artist with different musical pasts and inspirations. One found jazz after first studying classical music, another still performs as a classical musician, while one is experienced in the worlds of jazz, pop music and theatrical music too. There is another who found their own instrument through folk music, and another who has had occasion to perform with Budapest’s most prestigious classical orchestras, but who also performs free jazz in the clubs of the Hungarian capital. This exciting musical collective performs the songs of the Kriszta Koncz Group which may deal with a wide variety of themes, but also look to build the band’s repertoire around a single, continually recurring motif.
