Jazz Showcase

Now organised for the tenth year by Müpa Budapest, the Jazz Showcase is firmly established as the Central and Eastern Europe region's most important jazz talent exchange. Just as last year, the youngsters will be able to compare their skills before an invited international jury, who will judge them on their talent and innovative artistic vision. The productions deemed most original and exciting will be rewarded with further opportunities to perform thanks to collaborations between Müpa Budapest, the Hungarian Jazz Federation and a number of festivals. We also continue to value the opinions of the jazz fans in the audience: The audience prize-winner from performers on the three days will be invited back to perform at Müpa Budapest before too long.

Seeking new paths forward, young alto sax talent Gábor Baris found some superb fellow musicians for his band. Although marked by humility towards the music and respect for traditions, playing jazz standards is not enough for this group: with their own compositions, they create a distinctive style combining an excitingly melodic and varied sense of rhythm with hard-bop hallmarks, influences from Latin music and a youthful sound. They have taken an active and highly successful role in the jazz world with club concerts and as the host band at jam sessions.
