Jazz Showcase

Now being organised for the twelfth year by Müpa Budapest, the Jazz Showcase is firmly established as one of Central Europe's most important musical talent exchanges. As in previous years, nine young bands will compete to be the jury's, and the audience's, favourite. The performances will represent the broadest possible variety of jazz styles and instrumentation. Winners of the grand prize and audience prize will get a chance to play at Müpa Budapest again in 2019, and special category prizes will also be awarded. This event is presented in association with the Hungarian Jazz Federation, the Zemplén Festival and the Jazz Studies Research Group (Jatakucs).
Most of the members of this quintet hail from the Béla Bartók High School of Music. In other words, they have the Franz Liszt Academy of Music (which directs the school) to thank for bringing them together, enabling them to discover in each other a similar approach to music that ties them together in countless different ways. In 2018, they won first place in the 2nd Budapest Jazz Competition. This success is one of the reasons behind their continued collaboration. Their long-term and most important objective is to work on and perfect their own compositions. Their first album will be released in 2019 and will feature at least one song from each member of the band. We believe this band offers them the chance to learn even more and be even more courageous in their playing.
