Ten years on, the 15th Jazz Showcase once again places the V4 countries at centre stage. The outstanding Czech singer Dan Bárta has not just made his name as a soloist touring with Bobby McFerrin's VOCAbuLarieS production, playing as a guitarist with Sting or his work with Dominic Miller. Bárta, who is equally at home with the styles of jazz, funk and blues, has been performing with the Robert Balzar Trio for over a decade: now the Müpa audience can see exactly why their act is so amazingly popular.

Dan Bárta, an incredibly accomplished performer, first made his name in the early 1990s with the rock band Alice. He also displayed his theatrical talent in successful productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita. His initial big break came with the legendary J.A.R. group. He also developed his personal musical world with his own band, Illustratosphere, which has been one of the most popular musical collectives in Bárta's homeland for more than 20 years. He has won a total of 14 awards from the Czech Pop Music Academy. Robert Balzar is a Czech double bass-playing legend, continuing a mythic line that includes George Mraz and Miroslav Vitouš. Balzar has worked alongside John Abercrombie, Benny Golson, Hal Galper, Tony Lakatos, Arturo Sandoval and Kurt Elling. The pianist Vík Kristan has showcased his talent in a wide variety of different groups. In his own trio, he plays with the double bassist Jaromír Honzák and drummer Roman Vícha, though he is also a permanent member of the Czech Concept Art Orchestra. He is a sought-after musician not just in the Czech Republic, but also on the Polish and Scandinavian musical scenes. Drummer Kamil Slezák has been a member of the Robert Balzar Trio for seven years. His sensibility, musical ability and versatility have seen him in high demand from not only smaller jazz groups, but also the Gustav Brom Big Band and the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra.

The concert is organised by Müpa Budapest on the occasion of Hungary's presidency of the V4.
