Bolyki Brothers – Sound Men
4 November 2008 Tuesday
6:30 pm - 9 pm
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall

György Bolyki – tenor, Balázs Bolyki – counter-tenor, András Bolyki – baritone, László Bolyki – bass The Bolyki Brothers have been working together for over twenty years and their work is highly esteemed by classical, pop and jazz musicians. All four brothers are trained musicians, having graduated as viola, cello and clarinet players. Critics say they have created a style of their own, described as a “Tour de Voice”. Their productions are a cappella, meaning no instrumental accompaniment in which they sing pop, gospel and their own compositions in Hungarian and English with much humour. They also persuade their audiences to sing along with them regularly. At the 2005 Graz “Vokal Total” international a cappella competition, the Bolyki Brothers won five of the six available first prizes and became in a stroke the most successful group in the history of the competition. Besides Hungary they have appeared in numerous European countries and in 2007 went on a one month tour of the United States, enchanting audiences in 19 concerts. They have worked with musicians and groups such as Joe Muranyi, Al Di Meola, Holmes Brothers and the Benkó Dixieland Band. They have published four CDs and their musical Dr. Bubó was a big success and attracted crowds to the Budapest Sports Arena and other venues throughout the country. Last November, they made their debut at the Palace of Arts. Tickets for their advertised concert at the Festival Theatre sold out in a flash, and so the boys “repeated” their show that same afternoon. This time, they will be performing in the much larger Béla Bartók National Concert Hall.
