For two weeks, Müpa will evoke the worlds of three outstanding English composers – Henry Purcell, Edward Elgar and Benjamin Britten – with a tableau exhibition to accompany its one-day concert series. Providing the backdrop to the works performed by renowned Hungarian orchestras, choirs and soloists, the exhibition will offer insights into the composers’ lives, career turning points and sources of inspiration. Purcell is the voice of Baroque England, Elgar the quintessential English gentleman of the late Romantic era, and Britten the 20th-century master who drew on his predecessors’ legacy while remaining open to innovation. The English Marathon promises a rich cultural experience for lovers of music and history.
