Sixties retro began to appear in Hungarian cinema at the turn of the decade in which this film was made. The early 1960s dance school of Cha-cha-cha depicted the outlook of the backward-looking, burnt-out “big generation,” where emotions and human relationships conveyed through dance became as barren and illusory as lost social utopias. Besides the frightening and insurmountable problems of adolescence, the film also concentrates on the total inability of fathers and sons to communicate.
