producer-director Judit Várbiró
editor János Geier

Under artistic director Ádám Fischer, the Wagner in Budapest programme series was launched in 2006 to perform the composer's work in unique stagings in June of each year. The performances in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall have created a new style of opera performance, bringing to life Wagner's epic works through the use of unconventional theatrical techniques.
The creators of the 2012 production of Tannhäuser, Ádám Fischer and director Matthias Oldag, wanted to communicate the central tenets of Wagner's opera and to make these accessible to today's audience through the use of the latest tools of the theatre.
'We wanted to show the conflicts,' admits Ádám Fischer in the film; how Tannhäuser is ground down between two worlds and what happens to those people who try to break out of the accepted framework of society.
Through the production, director Matthias Oldag depicts the state of art, illustrating what happens to society when art is lacking. The figure of Tannhäuser identifies with the rebellious artist that society rejects.
