Berlioz

Béatrice et Bénédict – overture

Elgar

Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85

Franck

Symphony in D minor

The overture to Berlioz’s late opera Béatrice et Bénédict is an exciting and dynamic piece of music. Elgar’s Cello Concerto is one of the cornerstones of the concerto repertoire for the instrument: It is at once comprehensive and rich in emotion. And César Franck’s Symphony in D minor, flowing with German earnestness, is the Belgian-born French composer’s magnum opus. Three faces of Romanticism. This programme in itself is enough to promise a colourful evening, but it will be made even more vibrant when heard played by the superb Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under the baton of the outstanding Finnish conductor Mikko Franck, while the soloist will be the world-renowned Argentine cellist Sol Gabetta, who has already enchanted the Hungarian audience on several occasions.
