Symphony No. 6 in F major ("Pastorale”), Op. 68

Birdsong brings a touch of November spring to the Müpa Budapest concert hall. A concert that highlights the importance of preserving our planet opens with music by Einojuhani Rautavaara, the greatest Finnish composer of the second half of the 20th century. His concerto for birds and orchestra pays homage to Finland’s breathtaking landscape and wildlife. The evening closes with the Beethoven symphony evoking “memories of country life”, which comes complete with its own bit of woodwind ornithology. Between the two works, Mozart’s fresh and colourful final violin concerto will be heard, performed with “rich and technically immaculate” (The Guardian) solo playing by the Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili. The orchestra will take its place beneath a large tree to reflect love and responsibility for nature.
