Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche - symphonic poem, Op. 28

Three composers with a fantastic gift for orchestration, stories told through music alone, along with an infinite mix of orchestral colours - this is what is on offer at this joint concert by the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the legendary Rudolf Buchbinder, an authority with sixty years of experience.

In 1933, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Orchestra of the Philharmonic Society, the great trio of Bartók, Kodály, and Dohnányi joined forces to each produce a work for of the jubilee concert. Years later, Symphonic Minutes reached the stage of the Hungarian Royal Opera House together with a choreography by Dohnányi's wife, Elza Galafrés. The pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, known for his Beethoven performances, will take the stage after Dohnányi's work to perform Schumann's only completed piano concerto, in which the composer broke with tradition and, instead of presenting a showy solo instrument, made the piano an integral part of the orchestra. In the second part of the concert, the focus is on Richard Strauss: the story of the famous womanizer will be followed by Oscar Wilde's seductive but terrifying heroine, and then finally, Till Eulenspiegel edifying the audience with his musical pranks.
