Kristály

Millenáris Park will once again this year serve as the venue for Müpa Budapest’s most popular winter show

In this winter season, Recirquel returns with a renewed version of the contemporary circus fairy tale Kristály, which has been playing to full houses for years. Awaiting adults and children alike in the Millenáris Glass Hall is the magical world of a production evoking the atmosphere of the year-end holidays.

This work conceived by artistic director Bence Vági and combining elements of both dance and circus arts recalls the classic fairy tales: the mistress of the Crystal World loses her faith in human emotions and decided to freeze the world and shuts herself behind walls that, although they glitter, are made of ice. Together with the audience, the characters engage in a search for the warmth of love that permeates all things and the hope of light, with which they can melt the frosty heart of Mistress Kristály and save the inhabitants of the kingdom. A unique dramatic space brings the amazing fairy-tale images frozen in sparkling ice to life before the eyes of the audience. Entering this illusion-filled and snow-covered space immediately makes visitors into active participants themselves, breathing almost as one with the performers through their every move, as they swoop overhead an arm’s length away.

As in previous years, the role of the mistress of the Crystal World will be sung by the wonderful voice of Juli Horányi, while the entertaining pixie is performed by Brigitta Egyed, who will also be familiar from previous Recirquel performances. The permanent members of the company will once again be joined by numerous guest artists, among them the country’s most dazzling hip-hop dancers. The fairy-tale atmosphere is completed by the original and reworked music of Gábor Terjék and Dávid Mester, as well as the costumes of Emese Kasza and the set designed by Péter Klimó.
