Bridging Europe: 2014 Germany

Brahms, Brecht, Berlin Songs and the rest

This is the second year that the Palace of Arts and the Budapest Festival Orchestra will be staging a European-themed festival. European Bridges 2014 places the spotlight on Germany and primarily German music. The series of events taking place from 10 to 16 September will feature the Weill–Hauptmann–Brecht Lehrstück Der Jasager (The Yes Sayer) written in 1930 and directed by Eszter Novák, a Brahms evening, a programme of contemporary German compositions and a German baroque concert by the Budapest Festival Orchestra. Quality jazz will be represented by the Nils Wogram Nostalgia Trio and Das Kapital, Michael Wollny & Tamar Halperin, and the Tony Lakatos Quintet. There will also be a German-Hungarian literary evening and a new theatre production entitled Berlin Songs, while cult German films will be screened in the temporary outdoor cinema.
