In 2002, with the album Local Broadcast, a new musical world was born at the centre of Europe under the name Žagar, embarking on its journey with a ground-breaking and unusual blend of rock, trip-hop and electronic dance music. Following their first album, the soundtrack to the film Szezon gave the band's popularity a further boost. In 2009, a German music label secured worldwide distribution for their album Cannot Walk Fly Instead, on which the track Wings of Love brought international recognition to the band. Their latest album entitled Light Leaks resonated on several international blogs with some tracks featuring on the playlists of a number of British radio stations, among them the BBC. Žagar's music can also be heard on feature films and on television series: three of the band's tracks have made into onto the American CSI series. They last performed at Müpa in 2009, with great success. On this occasion, the group takes to the stage with tunes inspired by film music. Reworking pieces from their albums so far associated with the moving image, they allow greater space for repetitive parts, improvisation and atmospheric sonic textures. The will be supported in this undertaking by members of the Cantemus Choir from Nyíregyháza. Besides the rearrangements, some genuine film music also features for the first time this evening, as we hear excerpts from the soundtrack Balázs Zságer composed for the feature film Az éjszakám a nappalod (My Night is Your Day). The concert of film music will be accompanied by an evocative projection of classic and post-modern masterpieces from film history.
