Vera Jónás and her band the Vera Jónás Experiment are not only one of the best Hungarian singer-songwriters and groups of the 2010s, they are also famous for their constant experimentation. Now, they have created a remarkable joint production with the vocal ensemble Soharóza The show, Back-Pack, will centre around issues of identity and heritage, themes that the two groups both feel very strongly about. A profound concert experience that will feature vocal improvisations and boundary-crossing sounds to explore the true meaning of belonging.
Vera Jónás is characterised by a continual search for the right musical path, while all her art is pierced through with her distinctive voice. The Soharóza choir, formed 11 years ago, are an experimental vocal ensemble led by Dóra Halas. They experiement with their voices, various instruments and sounds, the human body and space. The paths of the two groups have crossed several times in the past. For many months now, however, they have been working together on a large-scale production where, based around the keywords of identity and heritage, they will endeavour to provide the musical expression of a dialogue regarding our place within the family, Europe and humanity as a whole. From the personal experiences of the artists, common patterns emerge. Through vocal improvisation, composition and editing, these patterns then merge into the direct and limitless songs of the Vera Jónás Experiment. This evening will see the world premiere of this special performative concert, an in-depth musical reflection on how inherited patterns may define us but can also be shaped by us. About how many layers you might unravel before you understand the world.
