Featuring:
For the final event in this year’s trumpet-focused Jazz Spring, we will hear somebody who represents the future. Together with the rest of his quartet, the trumpet player, composer, producer and influencer Theo Croker is on his way to the Festival Theatre. The grandson of trumpet player Doc Cheatham, Croker fearlessly parades both his grandfather’s musical legacy and strong ideological convictions, thanks to his civil rights activist father. Croker is a 21st century musician who uses his instrument to tells stories, urge progress beyond accepted formulas, entertain and provoke thought. His 2013 record Afro Physicist was a true milestone, while the soul, funk and postbop-inspired 2019 Star People Nation – produced by Dee Dee Bridgewater – was nominated for a Grammy Award. Croker then raised the stakes with the audacity of Love Quantum, released in 2022. His first ever concert in Hungary will feature a selection from all three records.
