Ever since his days at the Hungarian Music Academy, Lőrinc Barabás has been a defining presence in Hungarian music. He has appeared at the Australian Noosa Jazz Festival with the Soulwhat group, won the Prize for Best Film Score at the Hungarian Film Week with The Uptown Felaz band and is a former member of Irie Maffia. Barabás was also the man behind the Random Szerda (Random Wednesday) improvisational concerts between 2005 and 2010, and again from 2016. He has played alongside esteemed artists such as Valerie June, Bonobo, Nicola Conte, Erik Truffaz, Parov Stellar and Nils Petter Molvær. In 2005, Barabás founded his own group, the Lőrinc Barabás Eklektric, releasing two albums (Ladal, 2007, and Trick, 2009). In 2015, he created the Lőrinc Barabás Quartet, with Zoltán Cséry on keyboards, Attila Herr on the bass guitar and Zsolt Nagy on drums. Beardance is their first album, featuring 11 songs resembling diary entries.
For this concert to showcase their latest album, the group will be joined by a very special guest, Takuya Kuroda. The Japanese trumpet player, who will also be promoting his recently-released album, blends flashes of jazz, post-bop, neo-soul, hip-hop and electronica, and his joint performance with Lőrinc Barabás promises to be an incredibly exciting musical encounter.
