Take 6: Prelude To Rhapsody
Jazz Legends – Sponsored by Lexus

Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
Produced by Müpa Budapest
Jazz Legends

Take 6’s success can be expressed in numbers: Eight Grammy awards and ten Dove awards, seven concurrent appearances on various Billboard charts, a 44-year career, 14 studio albums, and one live album. Müpa Budapest can proudly add that the superstar a cappella group has performed at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall once every five years to date – and always delivered something new. Now, from their latest record, Prelude To Rhapsody, they bring a selection of classic, emotive songs that have been transformed in keeping with their sound and taken to new heights.

In almost every biography of the group’s career, you can read that Quincy Jones has called them the “the baddest vocal cats on the planet”. This opinion would probably be shared by Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald and Whitney Houston, all of whom worked alongside Take 6. In their music, which constructs refined rhythms, harmonies and melodies from elements of gospel, jazz, R’n’B and pop, these six incredibly colourful characters blend into a unique and harmonious whole. Each of them is driven by mutual respect, commitment and love for one other, and inspirational feeling that lifts their concert audiences, too. It is always a delight when they make a new album. We had to wait six years for their latest release, Prelude to Rhapsody. From Billie Holiday to Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington and George Gershwin, there is an ever-expanding list of legends whose priceless compositions have been re-harmonised by these six gentlemen in their own inimitable style. The Take 6 experience truly comes into its own in a live setting, and the presence of the magical personalities of Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Dave Thomas, Alvin Chea and Khristian Dentle is sure to be like receiving a Christmas present in the middle of the summer.

Lexus is the key sponsor of the Jazz Legends programme.
