Festival Theatre
Produced by Müpa Budapest

We may be inclined to believe that Cuban music holds no more surprises. But to some extent, surprises are not what this genre strives for – the emphasis is much more on luxurious quality. Taking its name from the country’s eastern mountains, Sierra Maestra is one such group. The band has been responsible for reinvigorating the classical son music of the first half of the 20th century, exploiting the virtues of contemporary orchestration to produce a modern sound. Sierra Maestra have lost nothing of their vigour and passion over the years and feel equally at home both at festivals and in concert halls. The band does not take no for an answer, winning audiences over without fail, and it’s never long before feet begin to shuffle and hips start to sway: in fact, it’s hard to put a foot wrong with Sierra Maestra.
