Featuring: the early Sebő Group (Ferenc Sebő, Béla Halmos, Gergely Koltay, Péter Éri, Albert Nagy), today’s Sebő Group (Ferenc Sebő, Iván Barvich, Géza Orczi, László Perger), Márta Sebestyén, Bea Palya, Szilvia Bognár and soloists of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble The singer, guitarist, hurdy-gurdy player and song writer, Ferenc Sebő was born on February 10th 1947 and was one of the initiators and key figures of the Hungarian folk music and dance house movement. In the sixties, he made a n...ame for himself as a student at the Budapest Technical University with his folk song arrangements and settings of Attila József’s verses. Together with classmate Béla Halmos, he formed the Sebő Group and was influenced by the legendary György Martin to collect folk music. He soon became the musical director of the Bartók Dance Ensemble, and worked at the Institute for Culture and Hungarian Television. After graduating from the musicology faculty of the Academy of Music, he took up a teaching post there. Since 1996 he has been artistic director of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, and from 2002, professional director of the House of Traditions. His fifteen albums comprise partly of folk music recordings, and partly verses from classical and contemporary Hungarian literature set to music. Today, they come together to provide the material for today’s celebratory concert programme.
