Rita Marcotulli – piano, Bebo Ferra – guitar Featuring: Béla Szakcsi Lakatos – piano Christophe Marguet – drums, percussion, Joachim Kühn – piano, Christophe Monniot – saxophone, Sébastien Boisseau – double bass Rita Marcotulli was born in Rome and since the 1980s has dwelt on the highest plane of European jazz; she has as regular partners Andy Sheppard and Anders Jormin but has also appeared with Chet Baker, Steve Grossman, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny, Michel Portal, Enrico Rava, ...Aldo Romano and Kenny Wheeler. Her intimate approach, the tension of her wide emotional scale as well as her remarkable ability to paint moods all give an individual slant to her playing. Her latest CD – Luar – is an evocation of Brazilian moonlight, which she made with the well known Italian guitarist Bebo Ferra. Their duo is an enchanting fusion of Latin American and European sound. Joachim Kühn was born in Leipzig in 1944 and influenced by his clarinettist brother Rolf, turned to jazz. After success at the 1964 Jazz Jamboree in Warsaw, he founded his trio. In 1966, he moved to West Germany, and in 1968 to Paris, where he became an influential member of the avant garde; he played with Eje Thelin, Jacques Thollot and Michel Portal, frequently on alto saxophone. In the seventies, he worked with jazz-rock bands, among them those of Jean-Luc Ponty, Philip Catherine, Zbigniew Seifert and Aldo Romano. He perfected his inimitable style with his piano trio featuring bass player Jean-François Jenny-Clark and drummer Daniel Humair. His reputation is further boosted by being one of the very few pianists with whom Ornette Coleman regularly performs. Last year, Hungary was witness to his early collaboration with the increasingly well-known young French musicians who regard him as their inspiration; this concert will be a world première of their joint repertoire.
