Jazz Legends

This seven-member brass band was formed in the centre of Vienna, at Josef Mnozil's pub. The group, who have been together since 1992, play classical music, jazz and other genres using a traditional brass line-up, often using rarely-seen instruments such as the bass trumpet. Their performances are no ordinaryconcerts: their world-class musical achievements are rounded out by their characteristic Austrian black humour and absurd situational comedy. They are often referred to as 'The Monty Python of Music'. Founder Sebastian Fuchsberger, who has since left the band, did extraordinary imitations of celebrities, actors, singers and comedians. Since his departure the septet have put their humour into more organised frameworks, and often collaborate with director Bernd Jeschek: he developed the stage programmes for Smoke, Ragazzi, Seven and 'the first operetta of the 21st century', The Trojan Boat. They regularly tour around the world, and have played together with such greats as Barry Tuckwell, Chuck Findley, Jeff Nelson and Wycliffe Gordon.
They never retreat from any challenge, and as they say, 'no tone is too high for us, no lip is too hot'. Their music is for everyone, and is 'visible' while their stage performance is 'smellable' . They have this to say about their Cirque show: 'For 25 years we've been trying to show how humankind is capable of joy. The earth is round. Humanity laughs. In a nutshell: the world is a circus.'
