László Kollár-Klemencz's solo evenings grew out of the Kistehén Melankólikus concerts and collaborations with a number of contemporary Hungarian poets over the course of several years, evolving into the suggestive, deep, emotional and popular performances we see today. The performer's personality is of key importance, as fans will already know from concerts by Kistehén, Rájátszás and Budapest Bár. Contemporary literature is another defining aspect of the work of László Kollár-Klemencz, and so two of his guests for this performance are the writers Virág Erdős and Krisztián Grecsó, with whom he is also involved in other joint projects. He has already performed with Virág Erdős at Kistehén concerts, but their active work began a couple of years ago as part of Rájátszás. Their first joint song, Ezt is elviszem magammal (I'm taking this with me too), was an almost immediate success. The fruit of their work together is Legesleges, Kollár-Klemencz's recently released debut solo album. He and author Krisztián Grecsó perform literature and music shows across Hungary. Two other musicians will also appear here as guests of honour in the shape of János Másik and Iván Lantos, both of whom have worked with Kollár-Klemencz since the early days of the Kistehén Melankólikus concerts. For this performance, János Másik will celebrate an era that continues into the present day and from which this show also draws, exploring a fraction of the legacy of János Baksa-Sós and Tamás Cseh, and bringing out the links between the music of the past and present. Meanwhile, with Iván Lantos - the living legend of Orfeo and Kolinda - they will go right back to the underground folk music movement of the 1970s.
'The poems that get me going are the ones in which I quickly find myself,' Kollár-Klemencz said in an interview, 'or those in which I don't find myself at all, in which case I am excited to recognise something or someone with the help of music.”
The musicians are members of the band Kistehén, to be joined at this gig by string players. The show will be based on the 2014 album Legesleges, complemented by earlier Kistehén songs from the album Ember a fán, which enjoyed success in Europe and America, as well as songs by Másik and Lantos. The participating poets will round out the lyrical tone of the evening with readings of their verse and a few songs performed together with the band.
