The concert Songs Of Hope, inspired by Iranian culture, is a cry for faith in the future and the longing for freedom. This programme built on thousands of years of the Persian musical tradition showcases this rich influence through the playing of virtuoso artists. At the core of the concert is the Canadian ensemble Constantinople, for whom this will be their first visit to Hungary since their inception in the late ’90s. With numerous excellent records to their name, they are led by Iranian-born Kiya Tabassian, an expert at playing the setar, a three-stringed plucked Persian instrument. Alongside Tabassian and Niloufar Mohseni, a master of the traditional Persian drum known as the tombak, the main protagonists of this evening are frequent guests of the Constantinople band. The five-time Grammy nominee Kayhan Kalhor once performed for a packed house at Müpa Budapest and is a virtuoso of the Persian stringed instrument known as the kamancheh, Meanwhile, Hadi Hosseini sings Persian songs, ensuring we can look forward to the type of exciting musical dialogue rarely heard in Hungary.
