Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
Produced by Müpa Budapest

For 50 years - since its formation in 1969 - the group Kaláka has been setting the finest works of Hungarian and international poetry to music. Or, as Sándor Kányádi put it best: 'Developing an 'original melody' of their own interpretation to make music out of poetry books published since Gutenberg's era.' Kaláka's clear identity is paired with a remarkably eclectic nature: they are capable of performing authentic music in as many different styles as you will find in the poems taken from across the centuries. This is evident in their characteristic performance style, with four vocalists and the band's musical blend of classical and folk instruments. 30 albums, more than a thousand songs and thousands and thousands of Kaláka concerts in both Hungary and beyond bear witness to the fact. They won the Kossuth Prize in 2000, the Prima Primissima Prize in 2004 and the Hungarian Heritage Award in 2014.
Kaláka will play a special two-part concert at Müpa Budapest to celebrate their 50th year. First, Budapest Bár will present a Kaláka programme developed especially for this prestigious occasion with the help of Tibor Kiss, György Ferenczi, Krisztián Szűcs, Juci Németh, Bea Palya, Bori Rutkai and Dorka Gryllus. We will then have the chance to enjoy the classic songs of the celebrated Kaláka in the most authentic way possible: the foursome of Gábor Becze, Dániel Gryllus, Vilmos Gryllus and Balázs Radványi 'reinforced' by Péter Huzella, Gábor Major and István Mikó. In other words, Kaláka's all-time line-up will stand before us!
