Jazz Showcase

Now being organised for the twelfth year by Müpa Budapest, the Jazz Showcase is firmly established as one of Central Europe's most important musical talent exchanges. As in previous years, nine young bands will compete to be the jury's, and the audience's, favourite. The performances will represent the broadest possible variety of jazz styles and instrumentation. Winners of the grand prize and audience prize will get a chance to play at Müpa Budapest again in 2019, and special category prizes will also be awarded. This event is presented in association with the Hungarian Jazz Federation, the Zemplén Festival and the Jazz Studies Research Group (Jatakucs).
Zsolt Farkas was born in 1995 in Rožňava, a town in the area of Slovakia known by Hungarians as Upper Hungary. He began playing the piano when he was five, while he was studying classical piano at the Rožňava Music School by the time he was seven. In 2011, he passed the entrance exam for the jazz department of the Béla Bartók High School of Music in Miskolc. In the same year, he won admittance to the Snétberger Music Talent Centre, where he has worked as an instructor for the past two years. He has also been a student at the jazz and piano departments of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music since 2017. His teachers have included Péter Rozsnyói, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos Jr., Kálmán Oláh and Ferenc Snétberger. Zsolt has performed in concert in countless places both in Hungary and abroad, including in Oslo, London and Tel Aviv.
