Jazz Legends

It is three years almost to the day since she wowed the Müpa Budapest audience as part of a trio alongside Jimmy Johnson on bass guitar and Simon Phillips on drums. Now, Hiromi, the most celebrated Japanese musician of our times, will be sure to once again enjoy the acclaim of the public as she makes her return, though this time she will be accompanied only by her piano. On her 2010 solo album Place To Be, Hiromi showed us how she was capable of journeying with irrepressible freedom amid classical music, jazz, rock and other related styles while demonstrating her creativity, virtuosity and enthusiasm for music. She is also capable of utilising her bewitching technical ability to lift the mood of herself and her listener. A series of albums made as part of a trio began in 2003 led to four further records: the 2011 Voice, Move in 2012, Alive in 2014 and the 2016 Spark. Each album featured Anthony Jackson on the bass guitar and Simon Phillips. These were followed by 2017's Live in Montreal, a special dual performance with the Colombian harpist Edmar Castaneda.
Hiromi will release a new solo album in 2019. As she enters her forties, the artist will create a blend from all the musical influences that have left their mark on her own image. Hiromi will appear at Müpa Budapest as part of her tour to promote the album. There are few artists in today's jazz scene capable of filling a concert hall on their own purely on the basis of their extraordinary talent, inimitable playing style and captivating personality. There can be no doubt that Hiromi is one of them.
