György Ferenczi – mouth organ, violin, vocals, Ádám Apáti – bass guitar, melodica, vocals, Miklós Jankó – drums, cajun, Levente Kormos – guitar, Zsolt Pintér – mandolin, vocals, Tamás Csikány – cajun Guests: Dániel Gryllus – zither, recorder, Bálint Bársony – saxophone Featuring: István Ungvári actor, Fáradt Halak Dance Ensemble In November 2007, the Palace of Arts launched a new series: Helikon Audiobook which placed on stage the collaborative publications between the Helikon Publishing Ho...use and the Gryllus Ltd. The Kaláka group, which has made a succession of albums setting the great classics of Hungarian poetry to accessible music, opened the series with a concert dedicated to the works of Kosztolányi. This is now followed by a show devoted to the great poet Sándor Petőfi by mouth organist György Ferenczi. During his twenty year career, Ferenczi has made his mark in country music, blues, rock & roll and Hungarian folk music fusion. He has contributed to over two hundred and fifty records, with his band Herfli Davidson and Rackajam and became famous across Europe. “Hungarian musicians”, he says in the Petőfi album, “normally have grounding in folk music because of the Kodály method. But this is not always the case. I grew up listening to the music of Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC and the Hobo Blues Band. Today two things shape my music: folk music and Hendrix. My favourite writer is Jókai, my favourite poet Petőfi. Anyone who loves the rock and roll life style cannot pass by Petőfi without being gripped by his energy and love for life. Learn just who this poet is because I have just learned.”
