Bridging Europe: Budapest–Brussels

The essence of Gaïsha can perhaps best be described as Arab music with subtle shades of psychedelia, rap, and a Belgian twist. The group was founded in 2022 as a collaboration between the velvet-toned singer Aïcha Haskal and some of the finest musicians on the Belgian music scene. Haskal grew up in a family where it was taboo for women to perform music, yet still chose music as her calling. The title song from their debut album, Ana Aïcha, which reached the top of the prestigious World Music Charts Europe after its release last year, speaks out for liberty and against the oppression of women.

This programme is being organised by Müpa Budapest as a side event to the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
