Crazy about Jazz

Special guest of Crazy About Jazz János Csík is a Kossuth Prize and Prima Primissima prize-winning musician and founder of the Csík Band. He has brought the enchantment of Hungarian folk music to hundreds of thousands of people, and proved how versatile the genre can be. The violinist, born in Kecskemét, took his first steps into folk culture as a dancer, but founded his first band, Garabó, when he was still in high school. Though he began his musical career as a musician for prominent Hungarian folk dance groups, János never suspected his work with his second band would end up transforming the entire culture of Hungarian popular music. Most múlik pontosan, Csillag vagy fecske, and Te majd kézen fogsz és hazavezetsz are just a few of the musical adaptations which the Csík Band have brought not only to Europe, but to countless countries across several continents.
János Csík will share stories from his immensely rich collection of experiences, such as when he and Krisztián Grecsó composed a song together while locked in a wine cellar. When it comes to jazz, we'll learn what styles and performers he enjoys from the American genre, a few of which will be performed by the hostess of the evening, Erika Náray.

Audience members will be able to take their seats in the Bohém Restaurant on a first-come, first-served basis from 6 pm, and can enjoy dinner before and after the concert.
