This extraordinary international octet is far more than eight Duke Ellington fans - though it is true that they are all huge fans of the work of one of the greatest composers, band leaders and pianists in the history of jazz. Three members of the group, Colin Dawson, Chris Hopkins and Oliver Mewes, also play in the band Echoes of Swing, which has enjoyed more than 20 years of success, while the other performers are all old friends of the trio and highly skilled representatives of the genre. Frank Roberscheuten is responsible for the evening's superb instrumentation.

Critics of the Echoes of Swing quartet rarely fail to mention that the group's music is entirely free from antiquated sounds or nostalgia that better belong in a museum, a feat achieved through their selection of modern instruments and forward-looking instrumentation, not to mention their impressive virtuosity. This approach is underlined by the fact that they have been signed by the German record label ACT, which supports pioneering European musical ventures. The saxophonist Frank Roberscheuten... was born in the Netherlands, and though he studied classical clarinet, he soon fell in love with swing. He has also previously performed as a guest of the Echoes of Swing, as well as the Metropole Orkest, The Dutch Swing College Band and many other groups. Engelbert Wrobel was also bewitched by jazz at an early age. He founded his own group at the age of 30, Swing Society, which has since performed at festivals and concert halls across Europe, Japan, Africa and the United States. Multi-instrumentalist and flute player Árpád Dennert and double bass player Zoltán Oláh are among the finest proponents of jazz in Hungary, while Béla Szalóky has been the host of the JazzTime Festival since the very start.
