While the world-famous Portuguese singer and songwriter is at home in several styles (pop, folk, classical), she is best known as a performer of fado. This melancholy, nostalgic urban folk music stands particularly close to the style and manner of Dulce Pontes. Her first big hit was the 1991 "Lusitana Paixão” (Portuguese Passion), which was her country's nomination to the Eurovision Song Contest. Another, later song, "Canção do Mar” (Song of the Sea), became a worldwide hit, and was recorded by such performers as Sarah Brightman. In Dulce Pontes's interpretation Portuguese songs are part of a captivating mix that also includes elements of Arabic, Brazilian or even Bulgarian folk music. Momentos, a double album released in 2009, served as a summary of a career of two decades.
