NEW ORLEANS SWING FESTIVAL

It should come as no surprise if the line-up is familiar. The traditional jazz-playing Dixie Kings of Hungary ensemble
was formed at the start of 2016 from the former members of the longtime great, recently disbanded Benkó Dixieland Band. The show will contain the greatest hits of traditional New Orleans jazz, Dixieland and swing under the guidance of the band's trombonist and vocalist Iván Nagy. Making their Müpa Budapest début a memorable one will be invited guest Enrico Tomasso, a trumpet-player, singer and all-around showman of extraordinary virtuosity and joie de vivre. Tomasso - arriving from England - started playing music at age five, and at seven was already playing trumpet in the The Tomasso Family, the family band that included his father, Ernie, older brother Freddie, and other siblings; this gave him the chance to play with Louis Armstrong when he visited London. In his Trumpet Greats music show, his musical mother tongue of traditional jazz and swing pays tribute to Bunny Berigan, Wild Bill Davison and Muggsy Spanier, as well as to Armstrong. He also says that he owes a great deal to the greats of bebop and hard bop, to Miles Davis, Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard, and he has even immersed himself in fusion jazz. This stylistic multifacetedness and superb playing have resulted in invitations to collaborate on the albums of pop stars like Marc Almond and Brian Ferry. The Dixie Kings of Hungary and Enrico Tomasso discovered each other's musical qualities at the 46th Breda Jazz Festival, one of Europe's biggest celebrations of traditional jazz, which led to their decision to put together a joint production. The audience will get to hear this rollicking show on the closing day of the New Orleans Swing Festival.
