Jazz Legends

The five-time Grammy winner Dianne Reeves has already performed twice at Müpa Budapest. She was the first artist to win Grammies for three consecutive albums in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category. After bewitching the audience of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in 2011 accompanied by just two guitars, Reeves returned in 2018 with a full rhythm section to triumph once again with the help of her captivating voice and magical personality. On this occasion, she will retain many of the same members of the band. We can be sure that her performance will once again show us why Reeves is one of the most legendary singers in the history of jazz.

It would be no exaggeration to cite her as a worthy heir to the legacy of Sarah Vaughan, Abbey Lincoln and Ella Fitzgerald. Not to mention Nina Simone, whose career was celebrated by Reeves, Lizz Wright and Angélique Kidjo in the concert series Sing The Truth. 2018 was a particularly successful year for Reeves: she received the Jazz Legends Award from the Monterey Jazz Festival – the award included a gala event to honour her work and is the most prestigious prize available for a jazz musician in the United States. She was also awarded the Arts Jazz Masters Award from the National Endowment for the Arts and honorary degrees from Berklee College of Music and the Juilliard School. Now, her greatest joy comes from the fact that, after a forced break due to the global pandemic, she is once again able to tour alongside her treasured musical companions, the pianist Peter Martin, guitarist Romero Lubambo, double bassist Reuben Rogers and Terreon Gully on drums. Reeves will prepare a liberal selection from her rich repertoire to ensure more wonderful moments for the Müpa Budapest audience.
