Cassandra Wilson – vocals, Jonathan Batiste – piano, Marvin Sewell – guitar, Reginald Veal – double bass, Herlin Reily – drums, Lekan Babalola – percussion Cassandra Wilson is regarded as one of the most versatile artists among American jazz vocalists. Born to a musical family in Mississippi, this performer-composer continually surprises her admirers; because of her openness and the way she experiences jazz as a process of continual change and renewal. She believes everything is possible. So her recordings feature astounding arrangements of standards, as well as her own compositions, which are influenced by blues, avant garde and African traditional music. Cassandra Wilson has a magical alto voice, which draws audiences susceptible to femme fatale vocalists; she has a captivating personality, and her artistry is no less astounding. Her latest CD was released in 2008, on the prestigious Blue Note label. Entitled Loverly, it was recently awarded a Grammy prize. Besides presenting material from the CD, she will also be playing some of her earlier work, both her compositions and evergreens, at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall.
